Role Overview

 

The machine shop group leader will manage the machine shop floor which includes managing work orders, coordinating machine repairs and running basic machine shop equipment.

 

Responsibilities: 
•    Maintains a safe and positive work environment.
•    Manages the machine shop by keeping track of work orders (monitoring and pushing them through as needed)
•    Helps set priorities for which work orders are worked first
•    Deals with machine shop repairs by coordinating with vendors
•    Contributes to production in the machine shop
•    Responsibilities will also include shifting resources for efficient production, communicating with the team and leaders about work order statuses, and serving as point person for questions or problems that arise
•    Recommends changes in methods or procedures, helping to define and improve standard work and efficiency 
•    Contributes to preparation of performance appraisals for respective team members in conjunction with the operations manager
•    Helps to maintain accurate attendance records – Contact person for call-ins.  Ensure that team members are at workstations ready to work at specified work time. 
•    Willing to attend all Leadership training assigned.

 

Skills/Knowledge:
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a wide range of people and personality types.
•    Strong interpersonal skills for dealing with different types of internal and external clients and conflict resolution. 
•    Ability to present, communicate and leverage ideas to internal and external clients.

 

Experience:

  • 5+ years managing a machine shop
