Role Overview

 

We are looking for an experienced Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to oversee an HSE technical team supporting Kodak’s Specialty Chemicals, Inks and Dispersions manufacturing, as well as Solvent Recovery operations. The technical team provides direct, operational HSE support services, with particular focus on environmental compliance and reporting, as well as utilizing process safety risk management tools to identify and mitigate hazards associated with chemical manufacturing operations.  

 

This is an onsite role in Rochester, New York. 

 

As the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager you will focus on preventing pollution and providing a safe and healthy workplace for Kodak employees and others. You will report to the Senior Manager HSE Kodak Rochester, implementing strategies to ensure manufacturing operations comply with regulatory requirements, conform to internal standards, and meet sustainability objectives. You will lead a team of HSE Specialists and others who work to integrate the HSE compliance & internal standard requirements into Kodak chemical manufacturing and solvent recovery operations. These operations span multiple buildings and include 24/7 operations, over 200 employees and ten supervisors. The successful candidate must actively engage with cross-functional peers in HSE, HR, Operations, and Facilities, to address workplace health, safety and environmental concerns and improve overall performance. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

 

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
1.    Lead a team of technical HSE staff who provide direct support to manufacturing operations.  Oversee staff meetings, regularly interact through 1:1 meetings, and conduct performance reviews.
2.    Provide active support, coaching, feedback and professional development planning, with the goal of preparing team members to assume increased responsibilities.
3.    Actively partner with the manufacturing operations leadership team; guide managers and group leaders across all functions to be effective HSE leaders/coaches in their respective positions.
4.    Work closely with operations leadership to define HSE priorities and develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to workplace health and safety, and environmental performance.
5.    Communicate routinely with operations leadership on significant HSE issues, including implementation of new regulations, ISO requirements, progress on annual HSE goals and government agency inspection results.
6.    In concert with Kodak HSE and operational leadership teams, actively manage implementation of workplace health and safety and environmental program improvements and support Process Safety Management reviews and change management activities.
7.    Support the launch and integration of cloud-based incident reporting, action tracking and concern reporting software systems. Ensure root cause and corrective actions are identified to prevent the recurrence of HSE-related incidents.
8.    Define HSE compliance training requirements and collaborate with Learning and Development staff to guide the structure and content of employee training programs.

 

 

Requirements:

•    Strong knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes. Previous direct experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) regulated operations strongly preferred.
•    Working knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and requirements at the local, state and federal levels.
•    Working knowledge of environmental regulations and requirements at the local, state and federal levels.
•    Knowledge and experience with ISO management systems (e.g. ISO 14001, ISO 45001); leadership of management review, auditing and corrective action processes preferred.
•    Demonstrated, effective team leadership skills with HSE technical staff.
•    Proven ability to work effectively in a cross-functional manner and build relationships.
•    Able to organize and coordinate multiple requirements/projects/processes simultaneously.
•    Able to complete responsibilities in a timely, professional, and quality manner.
•    Able to analyze complex problems, search out relevant information and gauge its importance when making decisions.
•    Effective written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms.
•    Excellent computer skills including advanced Excel (macros, pivot tables & formulas). Knowledge of Power BI and cloud-based HSE management software systems (e.g. VelocityEHS, Benchmark Gensuite) preferred.

 

Education and Experience:
•    Minimum Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
•    5+ years of relevant experience leading HSE technical staff and overseeing HSE activities in a hazardous chemical environment, Process Safety Management regulated operations preferred.
•    Attained or actively pursuing professional occupational health and safety, environmental or engineering certification (e.g. CSP, CIH, CHMM, PE, etc.)
