Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to lead a team of HSE technical and professional staff, and support the Kodak Rochester and Eastman Business Park manufacturing and commercial operations as part of our Worldwide Health, Safety and Environment Team. While the position will primarily focus on operations in Rochester, NY, it will also interact with Kodak’s other US and global manufacturing locations.
This is an onsite role in Rochester, New York.
As the Senior Manager HSE Rochester Operations you will focus on preventing pollution and providing a safe and healthy workplace for Kodak employees and others. You will report to the Director, WW Health, Safety and Environment, developing and implementing strategies to ensure manufacturing operations comply with regulatory requirements, conform to internal standards, and meet sustainability objectives. You will lead a team of HSE Specialists and others who work to integrate the HSE compliance & internal standard requirements into Kodak Rochester operations. The successful candidate must actively engage with cross-functional peers in HSE, HR, Operations, and Facilities, to address workplace health, safety and environmental concerns and improve overall performance. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of technical and professional HSE staff who provide direct support to manufacturing operations. Oversee staff meetings, regularly interact through 1:1 meetings, conduct performance reviews and professional development planning.
- Oversee Kodak Rochester’s HSE Management System and maintain ISO 14001 certification.
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to workplace health and safety, and environmental performance.
- Communicate routinely with Kodak managers on significant HSE issues, including implementation of new regulations, ISO requirements, progress on annual HSE goals and government agency inspection results
- Interact with government agencies for required inspections and data requests.
- Engage consultants as needed for specific technical issues.
- Identify and develop improvements to workplace health and safety and environmental policies, written programs and references, driving simplification and consistency across operational departments. Actively manage implementation of program improvements, working closely with HSE and operational leadership teams.
- Support the launch and expansion of cloud-based incident reporting, action tracking and concern reporting software systems (including configuration and user training).
- Define HSE compliance training requirements across the organization; collaborate with Learning and Development staff to guide the structure and content of employee training programs.
Requirements:
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes; particularly chemical production, coating and printing, and equipment assembly.
• Working knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and requirements at the local, state and federal levels.
• Working knowledge of environmental regulations and requirements at the local, state and federal levels.
• Knowledge and experience with ISO management systems (e.g. ISO 14001, ISO 45001); leadership of management review, auditing and corrective action processes preferred.
• Demonstrated, effective team leadership skills with HSE technical and professional staff.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a cross-functional manner and build relationships.
• Able to organize and coordinate multiple requirements/projects/processes simultaneously.
• Able to complete responsibilities in a timely, professional, and quality manner.
• Able to analyze complex problems, search out relevant information and gauge its importance when making decisions.
• Effective written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms.
• Excellent computer skills including advanced Excel (macros, pivot tables & formulas). Knowledge of Power BI and cloud-based HSE management software systems (e.g. VelocityEHS, Benchmark Gensuite) preferred.
Education and Experience:
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental or Chemical engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
• 8+ years of relevant experience leading HSE technical and professional staff and overseeing HSE activities in a chemical and/or printing equipment manufacturing environment.
• Attained or actively pursuing professional occupational health and safety certification (e.g. CSP, CIH, CHMM, etc.)
